Upon Request

I have recently received a request for my opinion on the scandal that has taken place at UNC. The facts that I have read is that there were fake classes that allowed athletes to be enrolled in but  they did not have to attend the class yet they received grades. Personally I have not seen or been a part of  the investigation neither have I seen  the evidence. However where there is smoke there is usually a fire. It seems like the past year and a half have been riddled with investigations for UNC. These allegations have ranged from illegal agent contact with football players to unauthorized trips for Psycho T’s mom Tami Hansbrough most recently. These trips were on UNC’s dime to locations where either Tyler or Ben had basketball games. Sounds very ethical………

Now all of this has come to a boiling point with Chancellor Thorp stepping down amid all of the scandals that have tarnished UNC’s integrity as an academic institution. However with all of the serious missteps by UNC they have simply received a mere slap on the wrist for all of the so called NCAA infractions. How can the NCAA the same NCAA that disputes a players eligibility who has already qualified for school and successfully completed summer school? How is it that UNC’s only real penalty is not being able to go to a bowl game this season?

Well I have a theory. My theory is that the NCAA needs UNC to a perennial powerhouse in basketball. They simply want to believe that all of the problems at UNC were just football problems. Despite evidence that Julius Peppers who was one of the so called “Student Athlete’s” that has been named as being involved in the scandal. Quick question did he play basketball? YES he did. So back to why the NCAA needs UNC. Well there are countless UNC basketball fans out there and they all come out during March Madness. Simply put the NCAA likes it because they can cash in on UNC Basketball. They want to have good TV rating. They also don’t want to catch the ire of the media. Which has its fair share of UNC grads.

My plea is simple. NCAA do the right thing! Don’t be afraid of looking into the evidence because it may hurt your revenue. Practice what you preach to the countless student athletes. Academics then Athletics. You’ve raised the bar for incoming student athletes academically starting in 2016. Time for you to step up to the bar. Don’t look at the name look at the FACTS!
