Do your Part

Hello Everyone!

I want to challenge you to do your part in helping make our planet better for ourselves and for future generations.  Little steps can go a long ways.  Here is my top 10 list for ways you can improve and help countless people.  Who knows, you may even save some extra dollars.

1. Reuse:  Recycling is great; however, reusing is best.  Before you throw away something try and get creative and see if you can use it again

2. Reduce:  Did you know that world’s richest 20% consume 76.6% of the worlds resources and products?  Do your part and do not buy that extra pair of shoes that you may wear once a year, or buy extra furniture that is used sparingly.

3. Recycle:  By recycling you can save tons of waste that fills our landfills each year.  One recycled aluminum container saves enough energy to run your TV for 3 hours.

4. Compost:  By having a composting pile you can have great organic additives for creating dynamic soil that plants will love. Remember when composting to mix the brown with the green. For example have sticks on the bottom with grass clippings, and veggie waste on top. Then mix in other kitchen waste.

5. Get in Shape:  Ditch the car and opt to walk or ride a bike. Not only will you save dollars at the pump but you will benefit from the exercise.

6. Ditch the sulfates:  Did you know that many of the cosmetic products that you use to wash your hair contain may sulfates and carcinogens? Look for products that are sulfate and paraben free.  I suggest MoonDance soaps or stop by Whole Foods and look into their products.

7. Turn it off:  You can save a ton of energy by simply turning off the TV, lights, and computer monitors when they are not in use. This will not only conserve energy but put dollars in your pocket

8. Replace:  There are a ton of new energy efficient light bulbs out there that will help you save money.  With increased competition these light bulbs are more affordable than ever!  Go to Lowes.com and check them out

9. Low Flow: Delta just introduced a new shower head the uses a wave pattern to make it feel like it has more water than it does. http://www.deltafaucet.com/bath/showering-components/filter.html

10. Plant: You can do your part to cut down on the strain on our super markets by having your own vegetable garden!  You can  help others by giving your excess away.  You will also feel a sense of accomplishment from growing your own food!

These are my 10 tips to help you become more sustainable. Get out there and get it started!  You will be glad you did!!!
