Consider it Competition???

So, many may wonder why I chose to name my blog “Consider it Competition.” Well, my thought process was that I wanted to find a unique name and something that was personally relevant.  Sports have always been a huge part of my life and has taught me many lessons that I believe have benefitted me thus far. Some of the things I have learned from being a part of sports and following sports are: the importance of teamwork, never giving up, and focus. All of these things have helped me become the person I am today. We must all work together in a variety of challenges each day. You may have a project at school, a deadline at work, or you may just simply have to help a family member or friend move. All of these situations call for teamwork. In some cases you may not always like who you work with but it is still important to get along and accomplish the task. I know that throughout my dealings with athletics I have been on a great number of teams and, guess what, I haven’t always loved everyone with whom I have worked. I have, however, learned how to overlook some peoples’ flaws to accomplish a task together. This lesson has benefited me as I have graduated from college and have begun my professional career.

So you may be wondering, well that’s great…but what does that have to do with your title being “Consider it Competition?” Well, in my life I have realized that competition brings out the best in us. I know personally, I relish the opportunity to compete. I miss being a part of the NC State Basketball Team. I loved how it was us against another team and how we had to work year ’round in order to compete. A quote I love from Russell Wilson is, ” Preparation creates Separation.” This is so true. As we go through life we must be willing to prepare in order to accomplish our goals and dreams. In life nothing will be given to you. There is always someone else out there who is trying to get to where you are. Remember, though, that competition is simply an opportunity for you to show how great you are!

This is not to say that we will win everyday; sometimes someone else will win. However, in those moments, I have learned that it is best to be congratulatory. Be a gracious loser. I myself have not always been a gracious loser as many people who are close to me can attest; however, I really do feel like I have come a long way. I must admit it is still a work in progress. In those times that we may not come out on top remember there will more than likely be another opportunity. Learn from your losses and use them as motivation to succeed in your next challenge. Another favorite quote of mine is ” A setback is a setup for a comeback.”

So I encourage everyone to dream big! Go out and relish your challenges, be grateful for your opportunities, and seize the moment. Also, don’t be afraid of failure and don’t be afraid to ask for help. Sometimes we do need a little teamwork or someone else’s perspective to get us over the hump. Attitude determines altitude!
