First and Last Black Friday

Happy Monday everyone! I really hope that this Thanksgiving Holiday was good to you. Personally it was a great break from work and I was able to enjoy time with my family and friends. The highlights for me this past Thanksgiving was playing in the annual Turkey Bowl, a flag football game with friends that I’ve been participating in since I was about 7 years old. I had a really good time this year and was lucky enough to score a few touchdowns; however, my team still lost. The other highlight for me was helping out some of the ladies at my Nana’s retirement apartments. My sister and I baked cookies and packaged them up and delivered them with our two little helpers Stephanie and Natalie our cousins. It was really nice to see the smiles that were brought to their faces as Stephanie and Natalie wished each one a happy “Tanksgiving” and gave them hugs. This holiday season I hope that we can all look to those who need a little lift in their spirits. Go out and do something for someone else. I promise you that as you lose yourself that you will find yourself. Think on that for a little while.

After Thanksgiving meal my mom, sister, and I decided to venture to Raleigh and do some shopping. Looking back on the time that I spent with my Mom and Sister it was fun hanging together; however, I am a little disappointed in my consumerism that night. It was still Thanksgiving which means I should be grateful for what I have and not looking for more stuff. I have a conundrum between fighting off my desire to have nice things but deep down I know that I am happier with less. That is why I will not partake in anymore Black Fridays as long as I shall live. I must admit that it was fun people watching. As I walked through Belk’s boot section at Crabtree I was reminded of a scene from Jurassic Park. The ladies were the raptors and the boots were fresh meat. Everyone seemed to be courtesy to each other despite the chaos though.

So with the holiday season officially here. Crazy that today is December 2nd only 3 weeks until Christmas. I really love this time of the year. I wish people had the spirit of this season year round. A few tips to make this the best Christmas season yet. First don’t get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the season. Relax and enjoy the company of friends and family. Second be thankful for what you do have and don’t focus on what you don’t have. Third go out and make someone else’s Christmas their best yet. I know from my own personally experience that I have always felt more joy from giving someone a gift than personally receiving one. I love seeing how someone lights up when they open a gift or when they are genuinely surprised. Here is another tip, give someone a gift for no reason at a random time. You will be amazed at the joy that can bring.

I want to wish everyone a Happy Christmas season or whatever holiday that you will be celebrating during this time of the year. Remember the people in your life that mean the most to you. The ones who have been there for you no matter what, the ones who care about you unconditionally. There are few people in this world who you know that you can count on. Reach out to them and let them know how thankful you are to them. So its time to breakout those ugly Christmas sweaters. Tis the Season!
