All in Stride

Each day we are faced with a plethora of situations, problems, people, and options. No two days are alike, when we get out of bed there is a certain unknown of what lies before us. Sure we all have routines and all have certain tasks that we probably have to do each day whether it be at work or in our personal lives. There are certain things in life that we have zero control over, however, we have complete control over our reactions and attitude when faced with these situations.

It is inevitable that each day you will come across a point in the day that you become frustrated. It may be a result of a person, lack of sleep, a task, or it could just be in an area that you may not be strong in. Whatever the case I implore you to take it in stride. If we make up our minds to respond to these moments with positivity or with the attitude that we will get through it, I can assure you that will come out less jaded and happier!

Patience is a virtue that is an attribute that I struggle with. I have a good idea of what I want, however, I can be extremely hard on myself as I am in the process of attaining my goals. My competitiveness doesn’t aid me in my pursuit of developing patience with myself. However I have become more aware of my own self and have been working hard at stopping and enjoying the process. A very cliche saying is, “Life is a marathon, not a sprint.” Over used? Absolutely but it couldn’t be more true. Another cliche taken from my background in athletics is, “One game at a time.” Also overstated but none the less true. Each day has equal value, I argue that today is the most important day of all.

This brings me back to taking everything in stride, we must be careful to not let things get under our skins. I use to have an issue with letting other people and their choices affect me or their judgements. After much reflection, I realized it wasn’t worth losing my cool or letting it ruin my day. Now there is a line between taking things in stride and apathy or not caring. I am all for caring and sticking up for your rights and beliefs, however, some situations are just a wash! In those situations it is best to make your beliefs known but agree to disagree and move on.

As you realize that somethings don’t have a clear answer or there isn’t a reason behind an action you can start to be in the moment more often. You find yourself freed of searching for the complex answers. Moving on is easier, confidence isn’t a problem, because you are completely cool with who you are. I must admit that I am borderline cocky, but I do my best to walk the line between confidence and arrogance. I know who I am and I am completely fine with who I am.

When you gain that confidence in yourself, you begin to approach challenges differently. You know that you have the capabilities to overcome challenges, people, and the negativity that is constantly swirling around us. As you gain confidence you have no problem asking others for help, you realize that you can’t do it all. We can’t do it alone!

Take things as they are. I want to leave you with a verse from one of my favorite songs right now:

No points to making plans
The wild life is human nature
We’ve got to take our chance
Try our best to keep it working
No points to making plans
The wild life is human nature
We’ve got to take our chance
Try our best to keep it working
