What is it about day old spaghetti?

Why is it that spaghetti is better the next day? I have always wondered this. Maybe it is because it knows what it is. It’s a basic italian dish. Very simple yet pretty universal. I mean hasn’t everyone had spaghetti at some point in their life? The blend of noodles, meat sauce, and meatballs are very easy to recreate, however, it seems impossible to capture the day old taste on the first day.

Just today I was reflecting as I was eating my day old spaghetti that it was rather average yesterday; however, overnight it became much more pleasing to the pallet. I am sure many may read this and think that this pointless? Why are you writing about spaghetti and how its better the next day? Well I am going to stretch and see if I can make this more than an personal spaghetti experiment.

Each day we should strive to be a little better. I have a simple theory on why day old spaghetti is better. I think its a combination of how all the ingredients sit together, the sauce, meatballs, and noodles. It’s almost as if they become one. The first time you eat spaghetti you prepare them separately then you pour the sauce and meatballs onto the noodles and you eat them. Time isn’t on your side. They never have time to mesh. However after a good day of being together they combine to become one.

Are we not continually trying to become day old spaghetti? Hang in there with me! In the beginning of our lives we are constantly trying new things. We have so many different ingredients placed upon us. Whether it be from friends, family, or our culture. But as we progress we find our true selves. We learn that we don’t have to be perfect, we don’t have do more than we are capable of, we don’t have to fake it to make it, eventually we become better the next day, just like day old spaghetti!

Be comfortable with what you are, its ok if you are different. The world would be a bland mixture of noodles and sauce if we were all the same. Next time you have spaghetti let me know if it is better the next day!
