I think we can all gain great insight in the type of person we are and what type of person someone else is based on the way they treat/react to people in certain environments. Let’s look at the restaurant scene. Eating out is very common and is a perfect window to view how a person is. Here is a tip for the ladies, if you are on a date with a guy and he is a jerk to your waitress or is generally rude and doesn’t recognize their existence, then you should really consider why are you with him. Look I am not saying you have to be over the top but all to often I will go out with friends and the waitress/waiter will ask, “Hey how are you doing?” The most common action or response is, “Fine and I would like water to drink…all while not making eye contact.”
Now before I make an absolute statement about how the said person is a jerk or a bad person, I want to give people the benefit of the doubt and side with maybe they are just unaware of their action. I don’t generally think of people as being awful, but if the shoes fit. So let me bring attention to this problem. Last night I went out to eat at mellow mushroom and as I looked around few people made eye contact or engaged in conversation with their waitress/waiter. Now it doesn’t take much to ask that person how they are doing. It is polite to reciprocate when someone asks how you are. It is the human thing to do!
Next time you are out to eat do your best to be friendly and try and make your waitress/waiters night. They do not have easy jobs and are all to often the punching bag of disgruntled customers. If something isn’t quite perfect with your service it isn’t the end of the world and I am sure that a little perspective is all that is needed to get you through. Last night a girl brought over our pizza and accidentally knocked my glass of water all over the table. I could tell that it has been a long evening for her so I tried my best to make a joke out of it and ease the tension and helped her clean up the mess. A little kindness can go a long ways. I guess that is my main point. Just be nice!
