The heat index will approach 107 today. This stifling heat can lead to a mirage if left outside too long. Those mirages are glamorized in Hollywood, humorous by making light of someone wandering through the desert only to stumble upon what appears to be a lush oasis. As clear as day in their mind; however, upon arrival nothing.
Am I experiencing a mirage? I will be 27 this coming Tuesday and can not believe how quickly life is passing by. Like my buddy, Luke Bryan sings in his song Fast, “sixty seconds now feels more like thirty.” As of this writing, I am blessed to have my health, a loving family, an amazing wife, and employment. This past year has been a blur but a spectacular blur at that. I was able to have experiences that have aided in my growth spiritually, personally, and professionally.
On May 17th, 2017 I married a wonderful woman named Jordan. She has been the best addition to my life. Seriously we have the best time together no matter the agenda. I cherish every second I get to spend with her and am so thankful that she is my partner in crime. The worst part of every day is the moment we have to leave each other to go to work; then the best part of the day is when we are reunited at the conclusion of our work days. Maybe that is why I hate the commute so much? That is because Jordan is waiting at the end of it. Not a day goes by that I am not grateful for our life together.
What is the purpose of this post? It is quite simple actually. Life is not perfect, but our attitudes can bring us closer to that lofty goal. Birthdays seem to provoke reflections of yesteryear, but also thoughts about the future. I am resolving to enjoy each breath of life and face obstacles with a positive can-do attitude. There is no reason why we cannot do our best to improve ourselves each day. I know I need to do better in some areas, but that is a big part of getting better. We must first realize a need for improvement before we can improve.
Today’s world seems to find a way for a countless number of unbelievably negative stories ranging from #fakenews to the fact that Donald Trump is occupying the White House. I cannot say, president. It is hard to stay positive and enjoy each day when we are served such negatively so frequently by the media. I contest that we be aware but, we do not let the minority project fears that are contrary to the majority. We cannot let fear control our actions. Unplug and put our best foot forward could be the best solution to the negativity that permeants our daily trots.
I believe in the world. I believe there is good in each of us no matter how small. Enjoy each day, be grateful for the low points in our lives as they make the highs that much sweeter. There are countless things that we cannot control; however, we can control our response. Each day an opportunity! Get out there and enjoy it.
