Peanut Butter Falcon

An adventure about friendship and not placing boundaries on what is possible. The story begins with a boy named Zach, who has down syndrome and a dream to attend the Saltwater Redneck’s school of wrestling. Living in a nursing home as he was placed there by the State, due to him not having any family or relatives capable of taking care of him. There he forges friendships with his roommate and caretaker.

Each day he watches films of the Saltwater Redneck performing his moves in the ring and wants to become a wrestling star of his own. Zach comes up with many elaborate plans to escape his Eastern North Carolina nursing home and meet the Saltwater Redneck. On his journey, he meets a man who has been down on his luck with not much promise. The two become friends as he promises Zach he will take him to the Saltwater Redneck’s school of wrestling.

Their journey includes many roadblocks and near-misses, but soon you learn that the man he meets does not place barriers in front of Zach and makes him believe in himself despite his weaknesses. It is a heartwarming story about how we can pick each other up and be the answer that someone else needs. Life is a big adventure and one that we should not embark on alone.

No doubt, we all feel alone at times, but we can do our best to extend our hands to help those in need. By offering a helping hand, it may not only help them but lend a new perspective on our own lives. Not only did the man help Zach, but Zach showed his genuine love for the man, and it changed his heart and direction. I don’t want to give away the movie but would recommend giving it a shot and think about how it makes you feel. How can we take the lessons taught by Zach and do a little more to bring light to the world? Does he make it to the Saltwater Redneck?
